Dry Type Transformer

What is the Dry Type Transformer?

LUGAO insists on purchasing high-quality materials, and professionals conduct quality inspections at each manufacturing step to ensure that the quality of the finished product meets the standards. A dry type transformer is a type of power transformer that does not use liquid insulating media but relies on solid insulating media for insulation and heat dissipation. It employs natural air cooling or forced air cooling for auxiliary heat dissipation. The windings are typically cast in epoxy resin to achieve dustproof, moisture-resistant, and short circuit resistant properties. Due to its oil free, pollution free, and low noise characteristics, it is generally used in areas with high safety requirements, such as residential areas, hospitals, and subways.

Benefits of Dry Type Transformer

1. Safety and Environmental Protection

Dry-type transformers do not use oil as a medium, and epoxy resin has self-extinguishing properties, so you do not need to worry about fire hazards or pollution risks caused by oil leaks.

2. Strong Environmental Adaptability

They can operate normally in high-altitude and high-humidity regions. The high-protection-rated housing effectively protects the unit, providing dust and moisture resistance.

3. Strong Social Acceptability

Dry-type transformers produce minimal noise during operation and can be directly installed in densely populated areas. They have high recycling value and high material recovery rates.

4. High space utilization

The compact structural design saves floor space and allows for direct embedded installation, with minimal cooling spacing required between devices. You can deploy other equipment to operate in tandem.

5. Low maintenance costs

No regular oil quality testing or oil filtration is required; simply clean the surface dust from the unit, reducing maintenance steps for operators.

Core components of Dry Type Transformer

1. Core

Highly magnetic cold rolled silicon steel sheets or amorphous alloy materials are typically used. Operators secure them in a laminated configuration to form the magnetic circuit.

2. Windings

High-voltage windings are separated by insulating paper. Low voltage windings are wound with multiple layers of round copper wire. When dealing with high currents, winding operators use a winding method to wind copper foil. The Dyn11 and Yyn0 connection methods are typically used. The number of turns in the windings determines the voltage ratio.

3. Insulation

Epoxy resin is the most commonly used solid insulation material in dry type transformers. It has self-extinguishing properties and is highly safe. It isolates the windings from the core and fills the space between windings, thereby enhancing the transformer's resistance to voltage breakdown and ensuring stable voltage transmission.

4. Cooling System

Natural cooling is suitable for small capacity dry type transformers. In high load applications, forced air cooling with fans is required.

5. Housing

The housing can be customized according to the environmental conditions of the usage area. For coastal regions, corrosion-resistant stainless steel material is recommended.

6. Tap Switch

No load tap changing adjusts the voltage by altering the number of winding turns. Common tap settings include ±2×2.5% and ±5%.
