The main uses of power transformers are very wide. They are suitable for large-capacity power transmission and distribution, but there are risks of fire and explosion, and the oil quality needs to be checked and maintained regularly. The core and windings of dry-type transformers are not immersed in insulating oil, relying on air convection cooling, fireproof, explosion-proof, and pollution-free. They are suitable for places with high requirements for fire and explosion prevention, such as high-rise buildings, and are gradually being used in large cities in my country.

According to the number of phases, there are single-phase transformers and three-phase transformers. Single-phase transformers are used in single-phase systems. They have simple structures, small sizes, and low costs. They are suitable for small-capacity power transmission and distribution. Three-phase transformers are used to increase and decrease voltage in three-phase systems. They are the most widely used and can provide more stable power output.

According to the winding form, they include double-winding transformers and three-winding transformers. The double-winding transformer is used to connect two voltage levels in the power system and is the most common. The three-winding transformer is generally used in the regional substation of the power system to connect three voltage levels.

According to the core form, there are core transformers and shell transformers. Core transformers are used for high-voltage power transformers, and the core is made of stacked silicon steel sheets. Shell transformers are used for special transformers with large currents.
